Shortwave Media, publisher of OBSOLESCENCE: A Dark Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror Anthology, is seeking short story submissions focused on horrifying or fantastical interactions with technology.
How you incorporate the theme in your story is up to you. We want to stress the definition of “technology” ranges from modern smartphones and smart house IOT devices, back to some of humanity’s earliest inventions, like the wheel or the written word itself.
We are looking for polished manuscripts of about 2,000-5,000 words (not hard cut-offs, but not too much under/over please) in standard Shunn format. Please include your contact information, including full name and email address.
Submissions will be open August 15th – midnight EST September 16th.
Submissions are now closed.
Submissions should be sent to [closed] as an attached Word doc or docx.
Please format the email subject line and your submitted file name as “Obsolescence – [Story Title] by [Author Name]”.
Accepted authors will be paid $.06/word and receive a contributor copy of the standard hardcover.
We are purchasing first world-wide print rights for two years from publication (reprints in “best of” yearly anthologies will be allowed).
We plan to notify all authors on the outcome of submissions by mid-November.
Reprints are not accepted for this anthology. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please let us know if the work is accepted elsewhere. Multiple submissions are accepted, but limited to three per author.
OBSOLESCENCE will be published in Spring 2023.
